It is not surprising that this is the case though. Many times on a home inspection I see the makings of a dryer fire in the home, and many people never even know.
So what can be done? Here are a few simple steps to hep keep you and your family safe:
- Keep the area around the dryer free and clear of unnecessary items and debris. If there is nothing to fuel the fire, it will go a long way to keeping a potential one in check.
- Clean the lint trap after every use. This is one of the easiest and quickest ways to keep your risk of a fire down.
- Clean the vent hose. The vent hose is a little more difficult to check and clean, but well worth the effort.
- If you have a gas dryer, periodically have a professional check the gas lines for leaks.
